Sarasota County Seeks Community Input on Fruitville Road Development Planning

Sarasota County will hold five neighborhood meetings on a planning initiative currently underway for future development on Fruitville Road east of I-75. These meetings will contribute to the refinement of results from a charrette held in April. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Church of Hope, 1560 Wendell Kent Road, Sarasota.

The initial meeting will cover the history of the Fruitville planning initiative and a discussion of planning methods, including charrettes and form-based codes. Planning processes--including rezoning, comprehensive planning, developments of regional impact, and future opportunities for residents to participate--also will be covered.

The series of meetings will consider alternative development patterns for approximately 325 acres of land, primarily designated Major Employment Center, owned by five private landowners and Sarasota County.
