Sarasota County Water Atlas

When the project began there were no well-documented, consistent methods for rapidly mapping the areal extent of oyster habitat over a large region. The methods for this effort evolved over time from manually recording the data on laminated shoreline aerial maps to recording data directly into ARCGIS using a tablet laptop computer. The Methods Manual defines the goals and purpose of the project, provides a detailed account of mapping techniques and procedures, provides descriptions and codes to characterize each type of oyster habitat, and lists necessary equipment and supplies. It was designed so that anyone with GIS training and access to a tablet computer and can easily duplicate the mapping effort anywhere oysters exist.
