Learn More: Water Flow

What does this mean?

The data presented represent how the current velocity of the river in cubic feet per second (cfs) is compared to historical averages for the period. The detailed table provides flow from individual stations along the river.

How are the data collected? (Methods)

The data are collected using a current meter. The meter consists of a propeller that rotates by the action of flowing water. Automated telemetry allows the data collected at the instrument to be sent via satellite to a base station.

Calculations

Simply presenting the data range is not meaningful. Instead, an icon using an up or down arrow, or an equal sign is used to indicate if the average flow on the river is currently higher, lower or the same as it has been historically at the majority of sampling stations.

Caveats and Limitations

Equipment malfunction may result in erroneous data.
