Trash Dude goes to local elementary schools

Keep Sarasota County Beautiful has awarded five local elementary schools its signature trash collection receptacle, the talking Trash Dude, along with $5,000 in education grants. On Tuesday, March 16, the Sarasota County Commission will host a ceremonial check presentation for the students, parents, teachers and school administrators. The presentation will take place at 9 a.m. during its regularly scheduled meeting in the commission chamber, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.
Grants were awarded in the following amounts:
-- First place: Bay Haven Elementary (Sarasota), $2,500
-- Second place: Phillippi Shores Elementary (Sarasota), $1,500
-- Third place: Atwater Elementary (North Port), $1,000
