Sarasota County to benefit from two Community Education Grants

Two Sarasota County projects expected to reach 2,000+ people were awarded Community Education Grants from the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The grants offer up to $5,000 to help fund projects that provide communities an opportunity to learn about water resources.
This year SWFWMD awarded 35 grants Districtwide for a total of $144,052. This is the 13th year the grants have been available.
The overall goal of the grant program is to actively engage adults in water-related issues pertaining to conservation, protection and preservation. Funded by SWFWMD Basin Boards, the program is intended to motivate communities to get involved in watershed protection through educational activities.
The City of North Port received $2,250 for an April 17th cleanup at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. The Range Cattle Research & Education Center received $5,000 to offer free soil and tissue testing and educational materials to regional beef and forage producers.
