America’s Best Beach hosts 35th Annual Sandy Claws Beach Run

Sarasota County Parks and Recreation's 35th Annual Sandy Claws Beach Run is coming to Siesta Beach, named "America's Best Beach for 2011," starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Siesta Beach pavilion, 948 Beach Road, Sarasota.

Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m. and is $25 for all runners.

"While the rest of the country is walking through snow and cold weather, we'll be running on America's Best Beach and celebrating the holidays with a beach party," said Finnegan.

All preregistered participants receive a Sandy Claws Beach Run long-sleeve T-shirt. Runners who register on race day will receive a T-shirt on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Awards are presented to the 1st - 6th place winners in each age group; the 1st - 3rd place winners receive trophies and the 4th - 6th place winners receive ribbons. In honor of the 35th anniversary, all registered participants will be entered into a drawing for 35 prizes.

The 1-mile fun run begins at 8 a.m. and the timed 5K run is at 8:20 a.m. The 35th Annual Sandy Claws Beach Run is sanctioned by the Manasota Track Club and uses ChampionChip timing.
