Sarasota County Utilities to plug five water supply wells in Alligator Creek Conservation Area

Preliminary work will begin on Jan. 22nd to plug five water supply wells no longer being used in the Alligator Creek Conservation Area in Venice.

Southwest Florida Management District (SWFWMD) rules require the county to plug and abandon wells that are no longer being used.

Limited vegetation clearing will be done. Consisting mainly of Brazilian pepper-trees, an exotic species, the vegetation will be mulched in place to create pathways to access the wells. Sarasota County Natural Resources specialists will be on site to verify that protected plants and animals will not be harmed by the construction activities.

All the work will be performed on county-owned property during daylight hours.

The project is expected to be completed in about four weeks.
