SARASOTA COUNTY - A community forum will cap off the celebration of World Environment Day in Sarasota County, long known for the sustainable practices of its residents, government, organizations and businesses.

The many environmental initiatives of this coastal community led the United Nations Environment Programme's Regional Office for North America (UNEP RONA) to select Sarasota County as the official North American host community for World Environment Day (WED) 2014.

In celebration, Sarasota County and a coalition of WED partners will host a community forum Thursday, June 5, 10:30 a.m. - noon, at Mote Marine Laboratory, a local marine science institution known internationally for advancing research, education and conservation.

Local and international experts on science and the environment, policy, sustainability, ecotourism and other key topics will share critical information on the opportunities and challenges facing Sarasota County and other coastal communities around the world. Attendees will then have the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and provide feedback in a facilitated discussion.
