Charlotte County Utilities to offer educational tours
Wastewater Educational Tours Are Scheduled for Spring 2016
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Feb 26. 2016) – Charlotte County Utilities Department is offering four free facility tours to give citizens a behind-the-scenes look at the process involved in providing water treatment and wastewater treatment and reclamation services to the community.
Tour dates are as follows:
- March 9, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Burnt Store Water Treatment and Reclamation Facility, 17430 Burnt Store Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33955
- March 10, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., West Port Water Reclamation Facility, 15005 Cattle Dock Point Road, Port Charlotte, FL 33981
- March 30, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Rotonda Water Reclamation Facility, 3740 Kendall Road, Rotonda West, FL 33946
- May 11, 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. East Port Water Reclamation Facility, 3100 Loveland Boulevard, Port Charlotte, FL 33980
Visitors will learn about the water reclamation process, observe treatment plant operators in action and learn about the transport, processing and disposal of biosolids. Attendees visiting the Burnt Store Road facility will be able to view the operations of both a water treatment plant (reverse osmosis) as well as a water reclamation facility. Visitors will observe treatment plant operators in action and learn the importance of hydration.
Tour capacity is limited and seats must be reserved in advance on a first-come, first-served basis. Tour guests are asked to wear closed-toed shoes, casual attire, and be prepared for participation in a walking tour that is mostly outdoors on uneven pathways, up and down stairs, and in non-air conditioned areas. If a minimum number of attendees do not register, the tour will be postponed. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour.
