Sarasota County Neighborhood Environmental Stewardship Team to host 'living shorelines' open house

You're invited to join the Sarasota County Neighborhood Environmental Stewardship Team (NEST) as it presents the concept of a "living shoreline" at an upcoming open house.

The open house, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday March 12th, at Venice Gardens Community Association, 406 Shamrock Blvd., Venice, will present environmentally friendly ways to reduce shoreline erosion, promote wildlife habitat and improve water quality in Alligator Creek, Lemon Bay and the lakes of Venice Gardens.

Residents who live on or near a lake, pond or canal will find this event informative. The open house will help attendees conceptualize a design for a living shoreline and provide tips for lessening their impact on the watershed.

For more information, call the Sarasota County Contact Center at 941-861-5000 and mention the NEST shorelines demonstration at Venice Gardens or visit www.scgov.net (keyword: NEST).
