$675K for stormwater upgrades included in 2018 City of Sarasota CIP budget

SARASOTA — City leaders scrutinized dozens of planned capital improvement projects worth millions of dollars on Monday night during the first of many scheduled workshops on next year’s budget.

A total of 62 projects are planned in 2018 and are expected to cost about $27.7 million, which will be drawn from a series of funds such as the extra sales tax revenue voters have approved over the years, monthly utility bills, gas taxes, grants and fees on new development.

The first peek at the city’s overall proposed budget, including the capital projects discussed Monday, will be available a few days before the next workshops on June 20, 21 and 22.

The project list includes two dozen new items worth $10.2 million over the next five years, including a series of stormwater improvements, street lighting upgrades, IT systems upgrades and improvements to utility infrastructure.
