North Port City Commission moves toward expansion of sewer

NORTH PORT – North Port city commissioners agreed on a framework for water and sewer expansion within the city at a Monday workshop.

No official votes were taken but, after a presentation by Englewood-based consultant Giffels-Webster Engineering, the board arrived at consensus to move forward with a plan that would switch homes from septic to sewer systems.

That plan would concentrate on areas with a existing density – which will make it more likely to receive state grants to offset the cost of the switch – and would likely pursue a vacuum sewer system in areas of greatest density.

The first targeted area is bounded by the Snover Waterway to the north, Cocoplum Waterway to the south, the Blueridge Waterway to the west and the MacCaughey Waterway to the East.
