Roberts Bay Venice

Roberts Bay Venice, covering 288 acres, is a bay situated in Sarasota County, with the associated WBID(s): 2018A.

Poised between Venice and Nokomis, Roberts Bay is a popular crossroads for boaters. The bay was named for Robert Roberts, who settled on its southern shore in the 1870s. The complicated flow of water in Roberts Bay comes from the Intracoastal Waterway, Lemon Bay, Hatchett Creek, Curry Creek, Blackburn Canal, Myakka River, Dona Bay, Shakett Creek, Cowpen Slough, and the Gulf of Mexico. Flushing to the Gulf is through the nearby Venice Inlet. Constructed several decades ago, the ICW, Blackburn Canal and Cowpen Slough modified water quality and natural systems in the bay. There is a small, legal discharge of highly purified wastewater from Curry Creek. This bay is an Outstanding Florida Water and part of the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program.
